Making Mental Health Information Accessible

Hey There.

Thanks for coming to visit me here. I'm The Anxious Psych. I'm a registered psychologist in Australia and diagnosed anxious girlie. For my whole life, I've been an anxious person. My brain races with never ending to do lists and what if's that at times we're all consuming. When I was trying to work out what was happening to me, I felt like all the information was cold, clinical, boring or hard to find. When I wanted to go talk to a professional about it, I found it daunting and scary.

Since becoming a psychologist, it's been my goal to make mental health support something that's more accessible to everyone and not so scary. My first step was opening my psychology clinic, The Sunshine Club Psychology, in the Sutherland Shire in Sydney. This was to create a space where people could go to get support that wasn't cold and clinical like traditional psychology offices, but warm, cozy and relaxed. I created a space where you could actually feel comfy enough to sit down and do the work to get better.

My next step was trying to make mental health information more accessible and relatable. So many people without the relevant qualification share misinformation on mental health online, and I wanted to join the conversation as a voice informed by research and evidence, as well as my own experiences with anxiety.

As a psychologist, I believe in breaking down old school ways of thinking that hold psychologists up on a pedestal and utilise self disclosure in a way that makes seeking mental health support less daunting. At the end of the day, I'm just another human working it all out as well, but luckily, I have special training to be able to guide you through your experiences too.
